Masked puffer

Mask puffer ( Arothron diadematus )

The masked ball (Arothron diadematus ) lives endemic in coral-rich fringing reefs of the Red Sea at depths of two to twenty meters. He is very closely related to the Black Point Puffer ( Arothron nigropunctatus ) from the Indo-Pacific and is associated by some scholars of this kind.

Mask puffers are off-white. It is characterized by a broad, dark brown band that stretches over his eyes up to the approaches of the pectoral fins. The mouth region, the dorsal and anal fins are also brown. The fish are 30 inches long. The skin is without scales and covered with small spines.

They live close to the ground, are solitary and territorial and feed on snails, clams, crustaceans and corals.
