Neotrygon kuhlii

The genus Neotrygon belongs to the family of stingrays ( Dasyatidae ). The species of the genus live in the Indian Ocean between the Red Sea and the western edge of the Pacific. Long their species were attributed to the stingrays ( Dasyatis ), but recent studies of the morphology and molecular nature led to the ( re-) spin-off of the separate genus Neotrygon.

Features

The species of the genus differ from other stingrays by a striking pattern around the eyes, reminiscent of a mask. In addition, they have a typical short tail with pronounced fin - folds on the top and bottom and a thin thread expiring tip.
