Massilia Sound System

The Massilia Sound System is a reggae band founded in 1984 in Marseille.

The group mixes reggae, rub-a - dub and ragga. The lyrics are written in French and Occitan, which can be explained with the identification with Marseille, her hometown.

After a long time did not find any record company, they started their own indie label Roker Promocion.

Band History

Tatou, Jali and Geotari founded in 1984, the Massilia Sound System. The first album was released in 1992 Parla Patois Up to this time they had released two demo tapes. Rude et souple and Vive le PIIM.

Along with the success of Olympique Marseille again made known the Massilia Sound System in the 1990 Marseille. So that the young Marseille got a positive identity and were again proud of their city.

In 2000 they had their national breakthrough with their album 3968 CR 13. They came to number 58 of the French charts and stayed with the album 3 weeks in the charts.

On 14 February 2002, the members of Massilia Sound System Mazzarino René François Ridel and received the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres conferred.

After the release of the live album Massilia fait tourner to the 20 - year anniversary of the group in 2004, the members worked on solo projects: Oai Star (rock, members from the Massilia Sound System: Gari Greuze, Kayalik Former members: . Lux Botte, Blu ) Moussu T e lei Jovents (Members: Tatou, Blu; Chanson ) and papet J (Dub, solo project René Mazzarino )

After 3 years of working on these solo projects, was released in 2007, the latest album by the formation Oai e Libertat in which they move away from their original roots and be more oriented towards electronics and pop.

On 18 July 2008, the former member Lux Botte died at the age of 47 years in Gardanne cancer.
