Massimo Maccarone ( born September 6, 1979 in Galliate ) is an Italian football player.

Career

He began his career in the youth of AC Milan. Between 1998 and 2000 he played on loan for the clubs FC Modena, AC Prato and AS Varese in Serie C, before he was signed from 2000 to 2002 from the Serie B club Empoli.

In 2002, the Offensive allrounder who plays mainly in the storm, for Middlesbrough FC in the English Premier League. In the season 2004/ 05 he was initially awarded to the AC Parma and in the return series of AC Siena in the Italian Serie A, before he returned to the 2005/06 season for Middlesbrough FC.

In the UEFA Cup 2005/ 06 Maccarone scored in the quarter and semi-final second leg respectively the decisive fourth goal for his team and had such a decisive share in the finals of Middlesbrough FC. In January 2007, he left Middlesbrough and returned to Siena. In June 2010 he signed with U.S. Palermo a limited three-year contract with an option for another year. In Palermo Maccarone received regular match practice, but was rare in the starting lineup, so he re- joined the club as early as the next transfer period by Sampdoria joined.

In 2002, Maccarone played two games for the Italian National Team. Making its debut on March 21 in a 2-1 victory against Leeds in England, he was the first player from the Serie B for 20 years, which was used in the Italian national team.
