Massimo Troisi

Massimo Troisi ( born February 19, 1953 in San Giorgio a Cremano, † June 4, 1994 in Rome ) was an Italian actor, director and author.

Life

He began his career with 15 years at the theater. With his friends Enzo Decaro and Lello Arena in 1969 he founded an own theater group. Italian television he was known by the Non Stop (1977-1979) comedy series, since he was known as the Italian Steve Martin. His first leading role in a movie he had in 1981.

His most famous film was The Postman Always on the side of Philippe Noiret in 1994. Filming cost him literally life. Although doctors exhorted him to seek treatment for his heart failure was the result of a rheumatic disease during his childhood, he refused if the required operation. Just one day after the end of shooting Troisi died of a heart attack. He was posthumously nominated for the Oscar for best male lead in 1996.

A place in his hometown of San Giorgio a Cremano in Naples bears his name.
