Massingy (Haute-Savoie)

Massingy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Massingy is located on 537 m above sea level. M., near Rumilly, approximately 18 km west-southwest of the town of Annecy (air line). The farming village extends in the western Albanais, on a hill between the valley of Albanais and the Valley of Nephe, east of the ridge of the Montagne du Gros Foug.

The area of ​​12.34 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Albanais. The main part of the territory is occupied by hills (up to 640 m above sea level. M. ), which is drained by several short streams north to Nephe. The Valley of Nephe, which forms the northern and western boundary that separates this hill country from the ridge of Mont Clergeon, the southern continuation of the Montagne du Gros Foug. A small part of the municipality lies west of the Nephe on the slopes of Mont Clergeon. Below the Col du Sapenay is 825 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Massingy.

Neighboring communities of Massingy are Moye and Rumilly in the north, Bloye in the east, the south and Albens Cessens in the West.

History

Massingy is first mentioned in the 12th century.

Attractions

The parish church of Notre -Dame was rebuilt in 1856 on the site of an earlier building. It has a Gothic pulpit. At Ligny, the chapel Notre -Dame-de -la- Délivrance and Perret -Dessus is a chapel of 1895. Among the secular buildings are the Château de Charansonnet to mention the ruins of the Château de Pringy, the manor house of Reinex and several mills.

Population

With 835 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Massingy is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Massingy counted 997 inhabitants). Since the early 1980s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Massingy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small businesses. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area and in the room Annecy their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from Rumilly. Further road links exist with Cessens, Bloye and Albens. The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of around 10 km.
