Matakong

Matakong is an island in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Guinea, between the Guinean capital Conakry and the border with Sierra Leone. It is part of Forécariah Prefecture.

Transport

In Matakong the proposed Trans- Guinean Railway to end. The train is to run from the iron ore deposits in the Southeast and bauxite deposits in the north to the port of Matakong.

A new deep-water port required because the port at Conakry can not be developed further and there Matakong, despite the shallower water, has better access to the hinterland.
