Matala (Angola)

Matala is a city in the province of Huíla in southwestern Angola. It lies on the River Cunene.

During the civil war in Angola, IDPs fled to Matala.

The city has an airport with the ICAO code FN18, and a railway line ( Caminho de Ferro do Namibe ) leads from Namibe here. Near Matala there is a hydroelectric power station on the Cunene.

According to calculations at present ( 2010) 33,998 people live in Matala.
