Matatiele is a municipality in the district Alfred Nzo, Eastern Cape Province in South Africa. In 2007 the population was 258 765 with a total area of 1,417 km ². The administrative center is Matatiele. Mayor of the municipality is Ntae Samuel Sello.

The community name is derived from Sesotho term for " the ducks have flown ", a reference to the large number of wetlands in the area, which serve as the duck habitat.
