Mateja Svet

Mateja Svet ( born August 16, 1968 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian former alpine skier.

The starting for Mateja Svet Yugoslavia denied her first World Cup race at age 16, she won her first race as a 17- year-old. In the World Ski Championships 1987 in Crans -Montana, she won three medals; Silver in the giant slalom and two bronze medals in the super -G and slalom. At the Olympic Games in Calgary in 1988, she won the slalom behind Vreni Schneider the silver medal.

Her biggest success in A matches they could celebrate at the 1989 World Ski Championships in Vail, as she became world champion in slalom. To this end, they won a bronze medal in the giant slalom; although only after it had been found at Christelle Guignard the use of doping substances.

She won a total of seven World Cup races, including six giant slaloms and a slalom; addition there were 22 additional podium finishes. In the season 1987/88 they won the giant slalom World Cup itself. In spring 1990 she gave her resignation from the top sports known; she was only 21 years old.
