Mateo Flecha el Joven

Mateu Fletxa el Jove ( cat.: the Younger '), also (Spanish ): Mateo Flecha el Joven (* 1530 in Prades ( Tarragona), Baix Camp, † February 20, 1604 in Sant Pere de la Portella, Berguedà ) was a Catalan musician of the Renaissance and nephew of Mateu Fletxa el Vell ( the Elder ).

After living for a time in Italy, was Mateu Fletxa priest of Empress Maria of Spain, wife of Maximilian II, and later cantor of the imperial chapel. After Maximilian's death Emperor Rudolf II appointed him Abbot of Tihany on the peninsula in the north of Lake Balaton in Hungary. Fletxa visited the Iberian peninsula in 1570, 1581 and 1586, to enlist new singer for the Imperial Chapel.

His most important works were moved to Venice and Prague; both cities had visited several times Fletxa. In Venice he published in 1568 the first book of five-part madrigals and four, a collection of 31 madrigals. In Prague, he published three books in 1581 with polyphonic music: ( lost) the book on the contrapuntal music, Divinarum completarum Psalmi ( incompletely preserved) and dedicated to the Ensaladas, Joan de Borja. This latter collection contains eight Ensaladas his uncle Mateu Fletxa el Vell, three by himself, two of Pere A. Vila, one of Bartomeu carceres and a Chaconne. In 1593 he published a book of poems on the death of the French Queen Elizabeth of Austria. Two notable works, Five part harmony for five string instruments as well as a four-part Miserere are obtained as the original manuscripts. 1599 Fletxa was built by King Philip III. appointed abbot of the monastery of Sant Pere de la Portella ( Comarca Berguedà ), where he spent his last years of life.
