Mateus Feliciano Augusto Tomás

Mateus Feliciano Augusto Tomás ( born February 23, 1958 in Chinguar, Bié, Angola Province; † 30 October 2010 Chongorói, Benguela Province) was Bishop of Namibe.

Life

Mateus Feliciano ( Augusto ) Tomás studied philosophy and Catholic theology in the seminary of Huambo. On September 18, 1983, he received in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição ordination. He initially worked as a pastor from 1984 Vice- Rector and Dean of the seminary from 1986 São João Evangelista. At the Accademia Alfonsiana he graduated from 1991 to 1993, a Licentiate in Moral Theology. In addition to a parish in the Diocese of Viterbo in 1996 he finished his doctoral studies in moral theology. In 1997 he returned to Angola and held various positions in the diocesan curia.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 21 March 2009 for the first bishop of the diocese erected under the same date Namibe. He received his episcopal consecration on 21 June 2009, the then Apostolic Nuncio in Angola, Giovanni Angelo Becciu in the Cathedral of Huambo; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Huambo, José de Queirós Alves, and the Bishop of Cabinda, Filomeno Vieira Dias do Nascimento. On 5 July 2009, he took over the management of his diocese.

Mateus Feliciano Tomás died 30 October 2010 on the way back by the General Assembly of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe from the consequences of a car accident, after his car collided with a herd of animals.
