Mathias Claus

Mathias Claus ( born May 15, 1956 in Waiblingen ) is a German pianist - composer of contemporary jazz and music producer.

Life

About his father, a church organist with a penchant for improvisational performance practice, Claus came early in contact with the music. He first began a classic study of music education for piano. For specialization in jazz piano playing and the arranger was followed by courses of study at the Berklee College of Music with Ray Santisi. Early music prizes, recordings, radio and television, as well as concerts in neighboring European countries favored his further musical studies. He moved to the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, where he received his diploma degree in 1989 with Dieter Glawischnig, with distinction in the field of jazz and jazz- related music. Here he also studied classical piano at Shigeko Takeya. To date, Claus jazz piano taught at the local music school of Braunschweig.

Work

After building his own studio Mathias Claus produced CDs worldwide with renowned musicians of the young cyber jazz scene, primarily in the United States. He worked among others Peggy Morris, Nigel Hitchcock, Laurence Cottle, Sue Maskaleris, Daniel Martina, Fillipo Bertacche, and many others. Awards

Mathias Claus was a fellow of GEMA, a prize winner at the state competition popular music of the South German Radio Baden Württemberg with its own jazz quintet and a finalist at international jazz competition Hoeillarts in Belgium.
