Mathilde Berghofer-Weichner

Mathilde Berghofer - Weichner, born Weichner ( born January 23, 1931 in Munich, † May 29, 2008 ibid ) was a German lawyer and politician of the CSU.

Life

After attending high school in Graefelfing Mathilde Berghofer - Weichner studied law at the University of Munich and in 1957 received his doctorate. After graduating she worked as a prosecutor and was short Ministerialrätin in Munich. She joined the CSU and in 1968 became the first woman deputy party chairman.

From 1959 to 1965 Berghofer - Weichner was a member of the Federal Executive of the Junge Union. They belonged to the Bavarian state parliament from 1970 to 1994. She was Secretary of State from 1974 in the Bavarian Ministry of Education and served from 1986 to 1993 as the Bavarian Justice Minister, the first woman in a Bavarian Cabinet. From 1988 to 1993 she was also Deputy Prime Minister. She was not appointed to the cabinet by Edmund Stoiber 1993.

Politically, it was considered to be representative of a hard line in the legal and policy profiled itself as declared opponent of abortion. Although she was a devout Catholic, took church but politically liberal positions, including the ability to open the office of priest and women.

After retirement from active political activity she worked with folk art and orchids.
