Mathilde Marchesi

Mathilde Marchesi de Castrone ( born Mathilde Graumann, born March 24, 1821 in Frankfurt am Main, † 17 November 1913 in London) was a German opera singer (mezzo- soprano) and music teacher.

Life

Mathilde Marchesi was a niece of Beethoven's friend Dorothea of ​​Ertmann. She studied in Paris under Manuel Patricio Rodríguez García singing. In 1849 she made ​​her debut as a singer. In 1854, she started her career as a music teacher at the Vienna Conservatory. She went to Paris in 1861, 1865 and 1868 Cologne back to Vienna. From 1881 she was back in Paris.

Mathilde Marchesi was with Salvatore de Castrone ( stage name: Salvatore Marchesi ) ( 1830-1908 ), an Italian baritone married. They are the parents of the soprano Blanche Marchesi ( 1863-1940 ).

In 1957 ( 22nd District ) was named after her in the Marchesigasse Vienna Danube city.
