Matitone (Genoa)

The San Benigno Torre Nord ( in German: San Benigno North Tower ), also often called Il Matitone, is a skyscraper in the Italian port city of Genoa. It was designed by Skidmore, and Merrill, Mario Lanata and Andrea Messina Owings and completed in 1992. The high-rise is located in the western district of San Benigno near the motorway Genova Ovest the A7.

Due to its special design of San Benigno Torre Nord was nicknamed Il Matitone to German: The pencil. For its octagonal shape of the bell tower of the Chiesa di San Donato served in the old city of Genoa as a model.

The tower itself is 109 feet high and is divided into 26 floors. In its vicinity are both the Lighthouse of Genoa, as well as the World Trade Center.
