Matra Bagheera

The Matra - Simca Bagheera was a three -seater sports coupe of the car manufacturer Matra Automobiles. It was jointly developed as a successor of the Matra Simca 530 and Matra (hence marketed as Matra - Simca ) and the 24-hour race in Le Mans presented to the public on June 9, 1973. The flat sports coupé with three seats in a row, pop-up headlights and mid-engine was fitted to the drive unit and front axle of the Simca 1100 TI. The basic concept of the car further consisted of a chassis with plastic paneling.

Since PSA Peugeot Citroën had bought the European brands of the U.S. parent company Chrysler in the summer of 1978, the model was sold from August 1979 to the new owner as a Talbot Matra Bagheera -.

The construction of the Bagheera is divided into two series: The first series ran until mid-1976 and the second was made in autumn 1977. The Bagheera has been continuously developed and so there are countless dependent on the year of construction detail differences. In the summer of 1980, production of Bagheera went off after about 47 802 copies. At the Paris Salon was presented the successor Talbot -Matra Murena in September of the same year.

The ADAC awarded the Bagheera because of various design and manufacturing defects its negative price Silver lemon.

Models

Series I ( 1973-1976 )

  • Type 1: simple equipment with cloth seats, untinted windows, steel wheels, 1294 cc and 62 kW (84 hp).
  • Type 2: upscale amenities with elaborate cloth seats, tinted windows, alloy wheels, clock, 1294 cc and 62 kW.
  • S: Equipped with tweed fabrics, tinted windows, alloy wheels, clock, power windows, reading lamps, optional folding roof, 1442 cc and 66 kW (90 hp).
  • Courrèges: specific, designed by fashion designer André Courrèges version in matt white finish, with faux leather seats, carpets and other specific details, 1294 cc and 62 kW (from summer 1974) or 1442 cc and 66 kW (from late 1975 )

The based on the first series Bagheera U8 with two four-cylinder engines in U-shape splinted (output: 118 kW/160 hp, maximum speed: 238 km / h ) remained only a prototype.

Series II (1977 to 1980)

  • N: simple equipment with plaid fabrics, steel wheels, optional folding roof, 1294 cc, 62 kW ( to March 1978) or 1442 cc, 85 hp ( N2 version as of November 1979).
  • S: Equipped with tweed fabrics, tinted windows, alloy wheels, clock, power windows, reading lamps, optional folding roof, 1442 cc and 66 kW.
  • Courrèges: specific, designed by fashion designer André Courrèges version in matt white finish, with faux leather seats, carpets and other specific details, 1442 cc and 66 kW.
  • X: luxurious amenities with velor seats, digital clock, rear wiper, optional folding roof, 1442 cc and 66 kW, took over from March 1978 off the features Courrèges.
  • Jubilé: luxurious amenities with velor seats, digital clock, rear wiper, series moderate folding roof, 1442 cc and 66 kW
