Matricula

Adelsmatrikeln (nobility books) were in Bavaria, Finland, Courland, Austria, Russia, Sweden and Württemberg official, guided by special authorities directories in which had to be to register all the noble families of the country. Non-registered families were not recognized as noble. In Finland and Sweden were ( and still are ) performed this parish registers from the House of Nobility in each country. In Prussia, the needle books were under the Herald's Office, in Austria the kuk Adel archive in the Interior Ministry, in Hungary the Hungarian Ministry in Vienna. In Russia there was in every province a special office, the "landscape" ( Sjemstwo ), who led the lists of noble families. The Adelsmatrikeln should prevent the Adelsusurpierung (nobility presumption Selbstadelung ). After 1918, took over in Germany the German nobility cooperative this function. The needle books were published until 1939 in the " Gotha Paperback " and from 1949 in the " Genealogical manual of the aristocracy ." Similar efforts are now ( after 1990 ) in Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary to the formation of the noble associations of these countries.
