Matriculation

The enrollment or enrollment at a university today is the prerequisite to be able to use the facilities of a German university allowed. This includes attending classes and participate in university exams, use of libraries. With the entry in the matriculation ( parent roll ) the university administration causes the inclusion of a person as a student / r and a member of the university. There used to be a private citizen law at the University, with the enrollment and a change of jurisdiction was connected; from the jurisdiction of the home town to the jurisdiction of the university. Enrollment will take place at the Student Affairs Office or Admissions Office of a university, the / the student is then fed into the Universitätsmatrikel. In Austria an inscription for the respective studies, in addition to one-time admission to the course (enrollment ) for each semester is required.

Contrast: exmatriculation - leaving the university (formerly lost one thereby also the university's civil rights ).

Requirements

In order to be enrolled at a university in Germany, particular prerequisites must be met. The most important requirement is the higher education: to study at a university, the general higher education entrance ( Abitur ), to study at a technical college requires at least upper secondary education. In almost all German states exist country-specific regulations that allow, in exceptional cases, a course of study without school.

In Austria and Switzerland, you need a graduation ( completion of secondary school) or a university entrance qualification, which is acquired for the university entrance exam for admission to study.
