Matt Corby

Matt Corby ( born November 7, 1990 in Sydney ) is an Australian singer-songwriter. He became famous for his participation in the talent show Australian Idol, in which he was second in 2007. He is associated with the genres of folk and indie.

Biography

Childhood and Australian Idol

Matt Corby was born in Sydney and grew up in the suburb of Oyster Bay. He was influenced early on by gospel music out of the church and toured themselves with a church band. In 2007 he took a 16- year-old on the Australian talent show Australian Idol in part and reached the final. There he sang the winning song Here I Am, but lost Natalie Gauci and became second. After the show, Corby took part in the Tour of Natalie Gauci winner and had their own performances.

The first three EPs

The record label Sony BMG thought with Corby to sign a contract, but decided to give the very young Corby time to think about whether he wanted to conclude the contract. He decided against Sony BMG and released in 2009 his debut EP Song for ... the label Scorpio Music.

In the same year he settled for a time in London. Here he played small shows and met with the label Communion, in which well-known artists such as Ben Howard, Michael Kiwanuka or are under contract and its founder Ben Lovett, a member of the British folk rock band Mumford & Sons. Corby's second EP My False issued by Comunion. In London, he acquired the songwriting and took the third EP Transition to Colour on, which was also published by the Comunion label in autumn 2010. Before he returned to Australia he gave numerous live shows in London and performed at the South by Southwest festival in Austin.

In 2011 he supported the British band Elbow on a national tour. He also participated with songs on albums by international artists like Julia Stone and Passenger.

Into the Flame and Resolution

11 November 2011 Corby's fourth EP Into the Flame was released. With this EP he made it for the first time in the Australian charts. Could achieve the highest placement the Into the Flame was ranked third was his most successful publication, which was five times platinum. The song was nominated at the ARIA Brother Music Awards for best song of the year. Brother also found international acclaim and climbed among others in the Dutch charts. 2012 Corby toured through the United States and Great Britain.

In the spring of 2013, Corby held several months in Los Angeles to work on new tracks. After one and a half year break finally came in July 2013 Corby's fifth EP resolution on the market. The single of the same finished fifth in the Australian charts and was awarded double platinum. In addition, Corby got it for the second time in a row, the ARIA Award for Song of the Year. On the Resolution tour Corby appeared in several Australian and New Zealand cities in October 2013.

Others

In the U.S. series The Black List, the song " Made of Stone" was in full length for the final scenes of the fourth episode of the first season, "The Stewmaker " (Eng. Stanley R. Kornish ) used.
