Matteo Palmieri

Matteo Palmieri (* 1406 in Florence, † 1475 ) was an Italian humanist in the Renaissance.

Life

Palmieri was born in Florence and studied with the famous humanist. He has worked in the Government of the Republic and wrote both in Latin and Italian. His work " De Temporibus " covers the period 449-1449 and one of the first attempts to write a history of the Middle Ages. Palmieri wrote a history of Florence and a story about the war with Pisa. In the Italian book " Della vita civile " he examined the properties that are needed to guide a family for the management of a state and a good citizen. " La città di vita " is a long poem in imitation of Dante Alighieri. On Palmieri wish it was not published until after his death. The Ricordi fiscali are records of the fiscal measures of the Republic of the introduction of the Catasto 1427 and its own investments in government debt and a major source for the history of the city finances and the internal conditions in Florence in the 15th century.
