Matthew Harrison (cleric)

Matthew Carl Harrison ( born March 14, 1962) is president of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, the second largest U.S. Lutheran church with about 2.4 million members.

Life

Harrison earned his college degree at the Morningside College, Sioux City in 1984. Subsequent studies in theology at Concordia Seminary, he completed, Fort Wayne, where he also earned his doctorate in theology. After the Vicariate he was in 1991 ordained to the ministry of the church. His pastorates have taken him to the St. Peter 's Lutheran Church, Westgate, Iowa, and in the Zion Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Until his election as chief minister of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod since 2001, he was director of Diakonia ( Executive Director, LCMS World Relief / Human Care ) this church. On 13 July 2010 he was elected at the 64th Synodal the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod for Church President and inaugurated on 11 September 2010.
