Matthew Shipp

Matthew Shipp ( born December 7, 1960 in Wilmington, Delaware) is an American pianist of the Creative Jazz. The mid-1980s drew Shipp to New York City and was divided into the local jazz scene.

Life and work

Shipp had from the age of five piano lessons and was interested in from the age of twelve for jazz. He studied at the University of Delaware, then moved to the New England Conservatory of Music. Shipp was a member of the David S. Ware Quartet. He founded his own quartet with saxophonist Rob Brown, bassist William Parker, with whom he also appeared as a duo, and drummer Whit Dickey.
