Matthias Maute

Matthias Maute (* 1963 ) is a German recorder player and composer who now lives in Montreal, Canada.

Maute studied recorder at the music academies in Freiburg and Utrecht. In 1990 he won the first prize in the solo category of the competition for early music in Bruges, in 1994 with the trio Passagio competition of the Dutch Impresariats.

Today Maute is the artistic director of the Ensemble Caprice and a member of the New York Baroque ensemble REBEL and principal flute of the REBEL Baroque Orchestra. He has written numerous compositions for recorder. As a teacher he has been asked around the world, he teaches flute, chamber music and improvisation at McGill University in Montreal. CDs by him are published by ATMA Classique, Dorian Recordings, Vanguard Classics and ANTES Editions.

Matthias Maute is married to Sophie Larivière, a member of the Ensemble Caprice.
