Matti Järvinen

Matti Järvinen Henrikki ( born February 18, 1909 in Tampere, † 22 July 1985 in Helsinki) was a Finnish javelin thrower and 1930-1934 the dominant athletes in this discipline. He won at the X Olympic Summer Games 1932, the gold medal and set ten world records recognized. His first world record dated August 8, 1930 with a distance of 71.57 meters, his last record is dated August 18, 1934 with a width of 77.23 m. Matti Järvinen 1934 and 1938 European champion in the javelin.

Mattis father Verner Järvinen was discus thrower and won at the Olympic Games in 1906 and 1908, a gold medal and two bronze medals. Mattis brother Akilles Järvinen was a decathlete and won in 1928 and 1932 respectively, the Olympic silver medal.
