Matvey Blanter

Matvei Isaakowitsch Blanter (Russian Матвей Исаакович Блантер; * 28 Januarjul / February 10 1903greg in Potschep, .. † September 27, 1990 in Moscow) was a Soviet composer.

Matvei Blanter grew up in a family of craftsmen. After a music education in Kursk and Moscow Blanter began to compose songs in the early 1920s. His first works were part of the light dance music. In the 1930s his style changed. Now he composed songs within the meaning of socialism. 1938 was the song about Stalin, whose German version is known under the title Stalin, friend, comrade. His most famous song is Katjuscha whose lyrics were written by Mikhail Issakowski. Moreover, composed Blanter a number of other Estrada hit. Total left behind Blanter an oeuvre of over 2000 songs.

1946 Blanter was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1965 with the title People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1975 with the title People's Artist of the USSR. In 1983 he was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor.
