Matvey Korobov

Matvey Korobov Georgijewitsch (Russian Матвей Георгиевич Коробов; born January 7, 1983 in Orotukan, Magadan Oblast, Soviet Union ) is a Russian amateur boxer. He is the world champion of 2005 and 2007 in the middleweight division.

Amateur career

The southpaw Korobov began in 1991 at the age of eight years with the boxes. In 1999 he won at the Cadet European Championship (U -17) in Baku the welterweight title. In 2001 he was European Junior champion in the light middleweight division as well as 2002 and 2003 Military World Champion in Sarajevo. He also won his first fight against the starting for Sweden Naim Terbunja by points ( 18:6 ). But In the second round he had against the Olympic champion from 2004 welterweight Baqtijar Artajew from Kazakhstan a point defeat ( 7:10 ) accept, which he left early and just finished a disappointing ninth place.

Professional career

After the Olympics, he signed a professional contract with Bob Arum promotion company " Top Rank " in the United States, where his parents and his brother have been living since 1998. His first fight is scheduled for 1 November 2008.
