Mau (Hindi: मऊ, Urdu: مئو; Mau [ mʌu ]; Maunath also Bhanjan ) is a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, with around 280,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ). It lies on the banks of the River Tamsa ( clay ) in the east Uttar Pradesh, around 90 kilometers north-east of Varanasi. The city is the administrative center of the district Mau. The majority of the urban population is Muslim.

By Mau leads the National Highway 29 from Ghazipur on Gorakhpur to the Nepalese border. Furthermore, meets at the station of Mau railway from Varanasi to Gorakhpur with the coming of Shahganj and Azamgarh route.
