Mauren

Moors ( dialect: Mura) is a municipality in the constituency lowlands of the Principality of Liechtenstein. The municipality belongs to the place Schaan forest.

Policy

Community leaders is Freddy Kaiser ( FBP). The council has ten seats: FBP with six, VU with three and FL with one seat

History

The municipality's territory Bronze Age finds have been made, which are indicative of a settlement around 1500 BC. The Romans built around 15 BC, a Roman road through the forest Schaan. In their series were built around 100 AD in Schaan forest and around 200 AD in Roman Moors farms. Another estate was built around 200-300 AD in Schaan forest, which was even equipped with a spa. After 400 AD the Roman settlements were abandoned.

Towards the end of the 7th century originated in Mauren a Christian church. The simple hall building had no apse. This arose only after the year 800 During this time, the dead were buried east of the apse. In 1178 the Moors was first mentioned under the name Muron, when it passed into the possession of the convent of St. Sebastian in GeopathSchänis. By 1200, a second church was built on the site of the first.

At least since 1305 Moors is an independent parish. In 1500, the total reconstruction of the church began. The Romanesque apse was replaced by a Gothic chancel. The Romanesque nave was provided with large Gothic windows. The tower is set in 1650, a wooden belfry on with a broken octagonal spire.

Coat of arms

The shield is divided diagonally left in black and gold. In front is a golden key with the downward pointing beard with cross incision to the right and an equally colored sword in the form of a St. Andrew's cross.
