Maurepas (Somme)

Maurepas ( Picard: Maurpo ) is a northern French village with 200 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality belongs to the canton Combles and is part of the Communauté de communes du canton de Combles.

Geography

The municipality, which includes the hamlet Leforest heard is situated about 13 km north- west of Peronne at the department road D146. On the eastern edge of the township Autoroute A1 run with a lay-by near the connection point and parallel to the high-speed rail route of the LGV Nord.

History

In the Battle of the Somme Maurepas was established in September 1916 battlefield. The municipality received the Croix de guerre as a distinction from 1914 to 1918.
