Maurice Couture

Maurice Couture RSV ( born November 3, 1926 in Saint- Pierre -de- Broughton ) is Archbishop Emeritus of Quebec since 2003 and Grand Officier of the Ordre national du Québec.

Life

Maurice Couture joined the Congregation of Saint Vincent de Paul de Religieux and received on 17 June 1951, the ordination. John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop on July 17, 1982 in Quebec City and Titular Bishop of Talaptula.

The Archbishop of Quebec Louis -Albert Vachon gave him on 22 October of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Were co-consecrators Lionel Audet, Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec, and Jean -Paul Labrie, Auxiliary Bishop of Québec.

On 1 December 1988 he was appointed Bishop of Baie- Comeau and introduced into the office on January 13 of next year. On March 17, 1990, he was appointed Archbishop of Quebec and introduced into the office on 1 May of the same year. On 15 November 2002, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
