The main areas with approximately 2000 hectares of vineyards lie but mainly in southern Bulgaria. There the vine provides intensive full, dry and tanninherben wine, which is also suitable for prolonged storage. Mavrud is a specialty of Asenovgrad in Plovdiv in Bulgaria.
