Max Burret

Max burret (fully Carl Ewald Max Karl Ewald Maximilian burret or burret; born June 6, 1883 in Saffig at Andernach, † September 19, 1964 in Berlin) was a German botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " burret ".

Life and work

At the urging of his father, he began his university education by studying law in Lausanne and Munich. However, his true passion was botany, so he moved to study and a times: in 1909 he graduated in Berlin his botany studies with a dissertation. In Berlin he continued throughout his academic career. He was curator of the local botanical garden and later a professor.

His research led him first to Europe and Africa and later studied at the invitation of the Brazilian government, the South American palm trees. 1938 and 1939 brought him his traveling to the tropics of the "Old World": Ceylon, Java, and Sumatra.

Burrets specialty were the palm trees; he published mainly on palms and Tillandsias.

Ehrentaxa

In honor of the genera Burretiodendron Rehd was. the plant family of the Linde family ( Tiliaceae ), Burretiokentia Pichi - Sermolli and Maxburretia Furtado, both from the plant the palm family ( Arecaceae ), named.
