Max Holste Broussard

The Max Holste Broussard MH.1521 was a single-engine multi-purpose aircraft from French production. It was developed in the early 1950s by the Société des Avions Max Holste for the military. As a French interpretation of the de Havilland Beaver shoulder Decker under the name " Broussard " ( German: Buschmann ) was known. Some copies are still flying today - including 3 copies in Germany - and offer through their double fin an unusual flight pattern.

Development

Derived from the smaller MH -152 was the 1521 response to the demand of the French military after an observation, liaison, reconnaissance and transport aircraft, which was specially designed to serve even under unfavorable operating conditions as Wounded transporter. Particular emphasis was placed on the robustness of the design. High engine performance, the interpretation as " Taildragger " ( spur -wheel drive) and a large area to add depth to the Ganzmetalleindecker short take-off and landing characteristics ( STOL ) on bad roads.

Description

The MH.1521 is powered by a Pratt & Whitney R -985 - AN-1 9-cylinder radial engine and had its maiden flight on 17 November 1952. Until 1961 366 copies were built, most of which went to the military operation. During the Algerian war even armed combat missions were flown with the Broussard. As with reconnaissance tanks the MH.1521 could stay in the air for up to ten hours.

After the decommissioning of many machines were used in agriculture as crop dusters. The enormous climb performance and the sliding door on the left make the MH.1521 but also particularly suitable for parachute jumps.
