Max Mara is an Italian designer brand for women's fashion. The Max Mara Fashion Group is one of the largest women's fashion manufacturer in Italy.

History

Achille Maramotti, an entrepreneur from Reggio Emilia began in 1947 to design designer fashion, and founded his own company in 1951, initially under the name Confezioni Maramotti. After a few years, the company name was changed to Max Mara. The name is a concept of art: ' Mara ' is derived from the surname Maramotti, 'Max' came from Count Max, a person from Reggio in the 1950s, the " seldom sober but always stylish " was.

The proceeds of the Group in 2008 amounted to 1.25 billion euros, of which the Max Mara brand alone contributed 469 million euros. The consolidated net profit in 2007 amounted to 44.5 million euros in 2008 and 20.1 million euros.

In a former Max Mara factory in Reggio since 2007, the Collezione Maramotti housed, a private museum of Maramotti family for contemporary art. Together with the Whitechapel Art Gallery also will be awarded twice a year, the Max Mara Art Prize for Women since 2006, a prize for artists from the UK. Since 1994 the Giulia Maramotti Foundation, a foundation to promote youth.
