Max Pfister

Max Pfister (* April 21, 1932 in Zurich ) is a German linguist and philologist.

Max Pfister is Professor Emeritus of Romance Philology at the University of Saarland. For his work, particularly in the field of Italian etymology he has received honorary doctorates from the Universities of Bari, Lecce, Turin, Rome and Palermo. With the guidance given by him LEI ( Lessico etimologico italiano ) he initiated a dense network of Italian and German research on Italian etymology and dialectology.
