Max Steiner

Maximilian Raoul Steiner ( born May 10, 1888 in Vienna, † December 28, 1971 in Beverly Hills, California ) was an Austrian-American composer and a total of 24 Oscar nominations, one of the most successful film music composer. Famous his scores are Gone with the Wind, as well as to the summer island.

Life

Steiner was born in Vienna's Leopoldstadt Hotel Nord train and came from a theatrical dynasty; his grandfather Maximilian Steiner was, inter alia, director of the " Theater an der Wien ", and his father was Gabor Steiner in Vienna also a theater director. He graduated from the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts at age 16. 15 years old Steiner debuted in 1903 with his operetta The beautiful Greek. He received his education among others, Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss.

In the years 1904 to 1914 Steiner worked as a conductor and arranger in the UK; mostly in London. Then he moved to America, where he worked as a composer, arranger and conductor. In 1916 he composed his first film score. 1929 Max Steiner went to Hollywood, where he first worked for the film company RKO Pictures. Among his better known scores include the music for King Kong and the white woman from the year 1933. First time in the history of film -backed Steiner and Kaun doing dialogs with music, which greatly increased the dramatic effect. The "Max Steiner Society " awards honorary memberships for particularly successful interpretations of his music. From Germany the composer Martin Böttcher is an honorary member of the society. Max Steiner is one of the most prolific and successful composers in Hollywood. 2003, the U.S. Postal Service published a 37- cent stamp with Steiner motif.

Max Steiner died at the age of 83 years in Beverly Hills.

Awards

His film scores for King Kong and the white woman and Mushy reached number 13 and number 2 in the issued by the American Film Institute's list of the 25 greatest film scores of 100 years. Max Steiner is jointly owned by Bernard Herrmann, Elmer Bernstein and Jerry Goldsmith to those composers who are represented twice in the list. Only John Williams summed it up three nominations.
