Max Zilzer

Max Zilzer ( born November 23, 1868 in Budapest, † 1943 in Berlin) was a German actor.

Life

Zilzer made ​​his debut in 1887 in Budapest and came back two years later to Germany. He played in Halle ( Saale), Marburg and Heilbronn. In 1892 he went to Osijek, 1894 to Maribor. In 1895, he came to a small stage in Vienna.

His next stage stop was the Municipal Theatre of Sibiu. Shortly before the turn of the century came Zilzer four years at the Grand Opera House in the American Cincinnati, where his son was born. Since 1904 he worked almost continuously on the Berlin stage. Even before the First World War he came to his first film role. Just as the theater itself Zilzer limited in the cinema to small character roles.

His son was the actor Wolfgang Zilzer, who emigrated to the seizure of power by the Nazis and then finally 1937. Max Zilzer remained in Berlin and was confronted at the beginning of World War II by the Gestapo with the photo of his son, who had worked under a pseudonym in the early anti-Nazi film Confessions of a Nazi Spy. He probably died in unexplained circumstances on the consequences of the brutal interrogation methods.
