Maxim Shostakovich

Maxim Dmitrievich Shostakovich ( born May 10, 1938 in Leningrad ) is a Russian conductor and pianist.

Life

Maxim Shostakovich was born the second child of Dmitri Shostakovich and Nina Warsar. He received his musical training at the Leningrad Music School, then at the Moscow Conservatory, including with Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Igor Markevitch. In 1971 he became chief conductor of the Radio Symphony Orchestra of the USSR conducted and as such acts as the premiere of the 15th Symphony of his father on 8 January 1972. On April 11, 1981, he fled to a concert by the Orchestra in Furth and emigrated with his son in the United States. After temporary management of the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra (1986-1991) and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, he returned in June 1994 for the first time after 1981 to his home to conduct in St. Petersburg.

Maxim is dedicatee of the second piano concerto and his father was also a pianist of the first performance. Since 1975 he has performed many well known works of his father and so contributed to its dissemination.

His son Dmitri Shostakovich Maximowitsch is also a pianist.
