May Hallatt

May Hallatt ( born May 1, 1876 in Scarborough, England; † May 20, 1969 in London; actually Effie Marie Hullatt ) was a British theater and film actress.

Life

May Hallatt was as Effie Marie Hullatt in Scarborough, England, born in 1876. After training as an actress, she appeared frequently on the theaters of London. Due to their small stature and her rather inconspicuous, but charismatic appearance, she was soon in demand as a character actress in film. From 1934 she was seen in a number of British films.

Your perhaps most famous role was in the film drama Black Narcissus (Black Narcissus, 1947) as an Indian housekeeper Angu Ayah on the side of Deborah Kerr. In 1958 she again played alongside Kerr in the award-winning American film drama Separated from bed and board ( Separate Tables ), which is based on the eponymous play by Terence Rattigan. In her role of the cynical Miss Meacham she was the only one within the star-studded cast that had already played its role at the theater in London and on Broadway. In 1965 she retired from the film business.

May Hallatt died in 1969 at the age of 93 years in London. Her son Neil Hallett was also an actor.
