Maya Rudolph

Maya Rudolph Khabira ( born July 27, 1972 in Gainesville, Florida ) is an American actress and comedienne. Notoriety she gained among other things as a cast member on NBC's Saturday Night Live. She is the daughter of soul singer Minnie Riperton.

Biography

Private life

Maya Rudolph was born in 1972 as part of the African American soul singer Minnie Riperton and Jewish composer, songwriter and producer Richard Rudolph. Minnie Riperton died shortly before the seventh birthday of their daughter at age 31 from breast cancer.

In her youth, Maya Rudolph attended St. Augustine by the Sea School, where she became friends with Gwyneth Paltrow. Later she attended Santa Monica High School and then the University of California, Santa Cruz, which they in 1994 with a BA left in Photography.

The avowed vegetarian is currently romantically involved with director Paul Thomas Anderson, has two daughters and a son and residences in Los Angeles and New York.

Career

During her studies, Maya Rudolph founded the jazz - funk band Super sauce, but she left after their graduation. Subsequently, she joined the group The Rentals of Weezer bassist Matt Sharp at, recorded an album and went with the band as a background singer and synth player on tour. After the dissolution, she devoted herself to a career as a comedian and joined the improvisational group The Groundlings.

In 2000 she appeared for the first time on the TV show Saturday Night Live and was a little later as a member of The Groundlings show the ensemble on. In 2005 she presented because of her pregnancy a break and eventually returned in February 2006. In November 2007, she left the show, but in 2008 had a guest appearance.

In addition to Saturday Night Live Rudolph stepped in some television series, such as City of Angels and Chicago Hope, and had minor roles in Hollywood films such as Gattaca and Bruce Paltrow's Duets, for which she was also involved with her father in the production of film music.

Her first significant film role she had during her pregnancy in the published 2006 Comedy Robert Altman 's Last Radio Show. Previously, she starred in Mike Judge sci-fi comedy Idiocracy ( 2005). The film's release but was delayed until 2006 and finally took place only in limited numbers. She also had guest roles in the animated film Shrek the Third, and a Simpsons episode.
