Mazinho

Iomar do Nascimento or short Mazinho ( born April 8, 1966 in Santa Rita, Paraíba ) is a former Brazilian football player and current coach.

Playing career

Mazinho was active for almost 20 years in Brazil and Europe. His first professional club was the 1983 Santa Cruz FC, ​​who was then in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B, the second division, played. In his first year as a pro, won the defensive player with Santa Cruz, the state championship of Pernambuco. After three years, he joined the Brazilian club CR Vasco da Gama, where he was a key member of the team for the next four seasons. In the years 1987 and 1988 Mazinho won with his team the state championship in Rio de Janeiro, in the following year, the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol, the national championship. On the final day, the December 16, 1989, was defeated in the decisive match of the Sao Paulo 1-0.

Mazinhos achievements have not gone unnoticed and European teams. So in 1990 he moved to Italy for U.S. Lecce. Right away he became a regular player there. However, the club did not manage to avoid relegation in Serie A and Mazinho decided to switch. During the summer 1991, he signed at Fiorentina, where he played among others with Gabriel Batistuta together. But his achievements remained the wishes here and Mazinho remained only a year before he returned to Brazil and hired at Palmeiras São Paulo. There he won the 1993 national championship. In addition, the State of São Paulo championship was won in the 1993 and 1994 and 1993, the Torneio Rio - São Paulo. Mazinho flourished again and four titles in two years again aroused the interest of European teams. For the season 1994/95 he was obliged by Spanish club Valencia. As one of the top performers Mazinho was with the club in 1995, tenth and 1996 runner-up behind Atlético Madrid. After this moderate success, he moved within the league to Celta de Vigo. In the four years at Vigo was Mazinho crowd favorite and constant regulars. Meanwhile, 34 - year, Mazinho 2000 signed for FC Elche and moved to the second Spanish league. After one season, he left Spain and moved back to Brazil to EC Vitória, where he ended his playing career after 15 games of the season.

National

In May 1989 Mazinho made ​​his debut in the senior national team Brazil. Shortly thereafter, he was part of the team that won the Copa América 1989. He came in six out of seven possible games to use. In the final against Uruguay, he played the full 90 minutes. A year later he was appointed to the cadre of Sebastião lazzaroni for the World Cup in Italy. Coaching career

Long after his retirement Mazinho was coach. In January 2009 he took over the fate of the Greek club Aris Thessaloniki, in which he replaced Enrique Hernández. In November he was released and set for him Héctor Cúper. All, he supervised the team in 23 national duty games. After only three wins from nine matches in the 2009/10 season, the club management decided to dismiss the Brazilians.
