Mbaiki (also Mbaiki, Mbaki or M'Baiki ) is the capital of Lobaye Prefecture in southwestern Central African Republic. The city's economy is based on coffee and timber industries.

The area around Mbaiki is mainly inhabited by Lobayern and pygmies.

History

Mbaiki, then estimated to be about 4000 inhabitants, was by the Morocco - Congo Agreement of 4 November 1911 as part of Neukamerun part of the German colony of Cameroon and the administrative seat of the district of Central Sanga - Lobaye. The acquisition by the 6th Company of the German Protection Force took place on February 1, 1913 by the later district manager Jesco von Puttkamer. In early March of the same year, the military base was largely destroyed by arson, the outbreak of riots but nipped in the bud.

In World War occupied by French troops, Mbaiki fell by the Treaty of Versailles back to French Equatorial Africa.
