McJoe Arroyo

McJoe Arroyo ( born December 5, 1985) is a Puerto Rican boxer. He won a bronze medal in the bantamweight title at the World Amateur Championship in 2007.

Career

McJoe Arroyo Acevedo grew up along with his twin brother McWilliams Arroyo Acevedo in Luquillo and Fajardo to the north of Puerto Rico. At age 12, they both started with the boxes. They evolved quickly and were already at 18 years of the best boxers of Puerto Rico in their weight classes. McJoe and McWilliams Arroyo are both 1.63 meters tall. In order not to have to compete against each other in championship boxing matches, they decided that McJoe always had to take up a weight class higher than McWilliams. In this agreement they have always held. McWilliams fights and fought in the paper and Flyweight, McJoe flyweight or bantamweight. You train in Catano or in San Juan. McJoe true of two brothers as the better technician, while McWilliams is the harder puncher.

After McJoe Arroyo had already denied several international tournaments, he started in 2005 with his first international championship, the Pan American Championships in Teresopolis / Brazil. He lost there flyweight his fight in the quarter-final against Juan Carlos Payano from the Dominican Republic just with 20:21 hits, reaching the 5th place.

In 2006 he won at the Central American & Caribbean Games in Cartagena flyweight against Alexis Diaz from Venezuela by points ( 21:14 ), but lost in the semifinals again against Juan Carlos Payano by points ( 8:11 ). He thus won a bronze medal.

In 2007, he was unable to attend the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro because of an injury. But he was in October 2007 at the World Championships in Chicago at the start again. In the bantamweight class, he defeated while Ryan Lindberg from Ireland and Saparbek ul Tilek from Kyrgyzstan respectively by demolition id 3rd round and won against Jonathan Romero from Colombia to points ( 23:9 ). In the semifinals, he lost to Sergei Wodopjanow from Russia on points, but gained so a World Cup bronze medal.

In 2008 he took part in the Olympic Games in Beijing with his brother McWilliams Arroyo. It was only the second time in the history of Olympic boxing that a pair of twins participated in a tournament. However McJoe had Lospech because he scored on a bye in his first fight on world champion Sergei Wodopjanow and lost like a year ago at the World Championships in Chicago to points ( 5:10 ). He thus retired before reaching the second round and finished together with all his losers round the 17th Place.

At the 2009 World Championships in Milan McJoe Arroyo won the bantamweight about Martin Parlagy from Slovakia ( 13:3 ) and Pedro Matos from Portugal ( 19:3 ) convincingly on points, but lost in the second round against Gu Yu from China with 3:10 hits and thus came to 9th place. But he was pleased with the title of his brother McWilliams flyweight.
