MD Helicopters

MD Helicopters, Inc. ( MDHI ) is an American manufacturer of helicopters based in Mesa ( Arizona ).

Generally

The beginnings of MD Helicopters go back to the aircraft division of Hughes Tool Company, which began in 1955 with the production of light helicopters. 1984, the helicopter production of Hughes Aircraft was sold to McDonnell Douglas, which in turn was in 1997 part of the Boeing Company. In 1999, Boeing sold then the helicopter production to the MD Helicopters Holdings Inc. (a subsidiary of the Dutch RDM Holding). This sale included the single-engine MD 500E, MD 520N, and MD 530F and MD 600N models with the NOTAR system as well as the twin-engined MD Explorer helicopter.

Boeing retained the rights to the AH -64 Apache attack helicopter and NOTAR patent.

The helicopter from MD Helicopters, in addition to the main plant at Falcon Field Airport ( ICAO code: KFFZ ) produced at the Hongdu Aviation Industry Group ( Hongdu ), Nanchang (China ) and Turkish Aerospace Industries ( TAI ) in Turkey.
