Mebeverine is a Darmspasmolytikum, which leads to a relaxation of the muscles of the gastrointestinal area, thereby exerting antispasmodic. The drug blocks the transmission of excitation of the nerve fibers of the autonomic nervous system on the gastrointestinal muscles by it displaces the competent messengers from their binding sites. In addition, Mebeverine has a direct effect in the muscle cells. Due to these properties of the active ingredient Mebeverine is administered primarily to patients with irritable bowel syndrome.
