Medal "For the Defence of the Caucasus"

The medal " For the Defense of the Caucasus (Russian Медаль " За оборону Кавказа ") was a Soviet award during the Second World War during the German summer offensive, which continued parts of the Caucasus by the Wehrmacht occupation. As part of the North Caucasian operation, however, the Red Army until February 1943 to liberate the Caucasus again. The medal was donated by Joseph Stalin and awarded to all those members of the Red Army, who were involved in the defense of the Caucasus.

Stylish look and manner

The bronze medal shows on its obverse in the center of the Caucasus Mountains on whose summits aircraft flying to the west, as well as oil field with derricks before which drive three tanks in the same direction. Semicircular the transcription За оборону Кавказа is ( for the defense of the Caucasus) to read. Enclosed is this representation of a container of rose branches, there is a red star in the top center between the branches. At its lower cross point the letters CCCP are to be read, which are separated by the hammer and sickle. The reverse shows the three-line inscription: За нашy советскую родину ( For our Soviet Motherland ).

Was driven medal at the upper left side of the chest of the award winners at one elongated pentagonal fabric-covered clasp, whose color is light green. The ribbon shows both sides of a blue hem and a vertical woven median strip, which has the color combination blue -white-red - green-red - white - blue. The accompanying interim clasp is of the same nature.
