medical glove

Surgical gloves are gloves that are used in medicine, to protect the patient from contamination of the surgical wound, or mucous membranes. In addition, they offer the user protection against infections that can be transmitted by blood or other body secretions of the patient.

Material

Surgical gloves are made of highly elastic, water- resistant material. Until today is used due to the good mechanical properties of the bulk of the earlier used almost exclusively natural latex. Alternative for medical staff, in which there is a latex allergy, gloves made of synthetic isoprene rubber, having the same mechanical properties, such as natural latex, or chloroprene rubber, but which is more rigid. Surgical gloves made of nitrile rubber or PVC are currently (2011) hardly used.

Sterility

We use only disposable products for use. For surgical or invasive diagnostic procedures surgical gloves must be sterilized and permanently sterile packaging. The sterilization is usually carried out by gamma - radiation. For operations with increased risk of damage to the gloves often two gloves are layered, (so-called double gloving ). If only a protection of personnel in nursing measures required, not sterilized, hygienic packed disposable gloves are used.
