Mednafen

Mednafen ( previously known as Nintencer ) is a free emulator of various game consoles. It offers many advanced functions and uses, among others, OpenGL and SDL. Mednafen is under the GNU General Public License licensed free software. Mednafen is an acronym for " My Emulator Does not Need A Frickin 'Excellent Name" ( loosely translated: My emulator does not need a oh-so- great name).

The emulator is executable on Microsoft Windows, Linux, PlayStation 3, and RISC OS. An implementation for the Wii is currently in development.

Mednafen allows to assign arbitrary and even simultaneously, the control keys and the emulated input devices of a keyboard or a joystick. In addition savestates can be created and the game in real time " rewound ". Screenshots can be saved by pressing a button in PNG format. The Mednafen server allows it to play NES, PC Engine and SuperGrafx games via a computer network with other players.

Since Mednafen has no separate configuration tools, settings changes via command line parameters or during the game on an OSD must be made. A graphical user interface ( GUI) will be developed in parallel.

Emulated systems

Currently Mednafen emulates game consoles Nintendo Entertainment System, PC Engine, SuperGrafx, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Neo Geo Pocket, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Wonderswan, Wonderswan Color, and Atari Lynx. Since version 0.6.0 also is a PC -FX emulation in development, but which is only limited operational at the time.
