Meet the Austins

Meet the Austins (1960 ) is the first children's book of American author Madeleine L' Engle and the first volume of a children's book series, which in the following years, followed by six more books. In German it was published in 1963 in Berlin Erika Klopp Verlag under the title We Austins from the American translated by Lena Stepath.

The Klopp Verlag recommended the German edition for a reading age of 12 years. In 1968 the book was published under license by Ravensburger Otto Maier Maier Verlag publishing house or in paperback in several editions, most recently in 1972 in its third edition.

This children's novel is a family story based on episodes from the family life of the author. From the perspective of the main character Vicky the mostly idyllic family life of the Austin family is portrayed. The Orphan Girl Maggy brings a lot of busy life in the U.S. doctor's family, until it has finally adapted to life with four siblings.

The book is that children 's literature or literature attributed girl who serves the socialization and the process focuses on the efforts of outsiders to integrate with reference to an orphan's fate. It was founded in 1967 recommended as a suitable text for teaching German in the 6th year of school.

Later several sequels followed; including The Moon by Night (1963) and The Young Unicorns (1968). The seventh and to date last volume of the series was released in 1994 under the title Troubling a Star. The first volume Meet the Austins was reissued in 1997, supplemented by a hitherto missing chapter, which was published separately in 1980 under the title The Anti- Muffins.
